Many efforts have been made in the past to understand the function of lactose fines which are given as a ternary component to carrier-based dry powder inhaler formulations. It is undisputed that fines can significantly improve the performance of such formulations, but choosing the right amount of fines is a crucial point, because too high concentrations can have negative effects on the dispersion performance

Abstract In this study, electrostatic charging of lactose and its mixtures with salbutamol sulphate (SS) were studied as a function of relative humidity (RH). Powder adhesion onto a steel pipe surface was also investigated. The powders were charged by sliding in a steel pipe. Increase in RH decreased the charging of lactose and mixtures, but the effect on SS was not evident. Furthermore, the charge of the mixtures reversed from negative to positive as RH was increased and remained positive as...

Surface energies and dynamic vapour sorption (DVS) plays an imparative role in drug polymer interaction in the formulation development for a number of applications. Powdered films of two pH sensitive polymers namely hypromellose phthalate (HPMCP) and methacrylic acid copolymer NF (Eudragit L30-55) were studied for surface energy analysis employing inverse-phase gas chromatography (IGC) which is a well-known physi- cal technique in acquiring significant information about surfaces of...

Oral salbutamol sulphate has site-specific absorption in the stomach and upper part of the small intestine. Its bioavailability is about 40% due to several factors including narrow absorption window and extensive intestinal metabolism. The aim of this study was to formulate and optimize sustained release floating tablets of salbutamol sulphate in order to improve its bioavailability and reduce its dosing frequency......
